An Increased Appetite for God's Word, Mickey Lim

It was the winter of 1999 when I first heard about and met the local church. At that time I was a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. Until that time I had been a nominal, lukewarm Christian who just went to church on Sundays. Although I was a Christian, I did not believe all the things written in the Bible, which was one reason why I had no appetite for the Bible. One day the sister who led me to the local church recommended me to attend a personal Bible study meeting with some other sisters and I accidentally said yes to the offer. Since then, every Thursday I met two sisters on campus to read the Bible or a book related to the Bible together.

During the semester I read several spiritual books, sometimes by myself or sometimes with the sisters. The books that I read during that time were mostly written by Watchman Nee or Witness Lee. All of them were a great help for me to understand the Bible and they also increased my appetite for the Word. For the first time in my Christian life I felt that I knew God and that the Bible was unlocked and open before me. Since I had not been saved in a dynamic way, I sometimes even doubted my own salvation. What cleared away any doubt of my salvation was 1 Corinthians 12:3, “...no one can say, Jesus is Lord! Except in the Holy Spirit.” The fact that I could call, “Oh Lord Jesus!” was strong proof that I was in the Holy Spirit. How could an unsaved person be in the Holy Spirit?

After having the assurance of my salvation, I began my real Christian life as a seeker. In order to understand the Bible more, I bought a Recovery version of the New Testament with footnotes. The footnotes were a real treasure to me because they explained so many things in the Bible that I did not know before and answered all my questions. This made my understanding of the Word richer and fuller. I just fell in love with the word of God and I fell in love with Christ, who is the living Word of God. I really thank the Lord for His leading me to the local church and allowing me to enjoy the unsearchable riches of Christ in the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.
